Job Summary

The University of Akron is seeking a highly qualified and experienced tenure-track professor to join our Department of Biology as an Assistant Professor of Genetics, Genomics, or Bioinformatics. Key Responsibilities
  • Teach and develop courses in genetics, genomics, and bioinformatics at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
  • Conduct research in genetics, genomics, or bioinformatics, with a focus on health, well-being, and community flourishing.
  • Develop and maintain an active research program, with potential for external funding.
  • Supervise and mentor undergraduate and graduate students in research projects.
  • Participate in departmental and university service, including committee work and outreach activities.
Requirements
  • Ph.D. in Biology or a related field.
  • Postdoctoral research experience.
  • Evidence of research and teaching excellence in genetics, genomics, or bioinformatics.
  • Ability to integrate across multiple college focus areas, including Data Science & Analytics, Global Change Science, and Health, Well-being & Community Flourishing.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working with large biological datasets.
  • Knowledge of genomics and bioinformatics techniques.
  • Ability to leverage existing resources, such as local healthcare infrastructure and regional research institutions.
