Job Overview

Position Summary

This role operates under minimal supervision and is tasked with evaluating motor vehicle dealership sites and reviewing documentation to ensure compliance with legal requirements regarding the accurate collection of fees and taxes. Additional responsibilities include assessing motor vehicles to identify key components to prevent theft and mentoring Exam & Inspection Specialists in the vehicle and dealership inspection procedures. This position may also serve as a resource for law enforcement in investigations related to dealership and vehicle fraud.

Qualifications

Essential Qualifications

  • At least one year of experience in conducting inspections of motor vehicles and dealerships, or three years of experience in processing motor vehicle title transactions.

OR:

  • Two years of experience as an auto body repair technician, or certification as an auto body repair technician from an accredited trade or vocational institution.

Additionally:

  • Comprehensive knowledge of Minnesota laws regarding salvaged and reconstructed motor vehicles, including inspection criteria.
  • In-depth understanding of Minnesota dealer licensing regulations and the processes involved in establishing and maintaining a motor vehicle dealership.
  • Exceptional customer service abilities.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license.
  • Proficient in English reading, writing, and speaking to effectively communicate clear and concise information.
  • Capability to collaborate effectively with individuals from various backgrounds and underserved communities.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Extensive knowledge of Minnesota dealer licensing laws, including but not limited to Chapters 168, 168A, 297B, 325F, and associated regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Solid understanding of motor vehicle title and registration laws, rules, and business practices to analyze issues and determine necessary records for criminal and tax fraud investigations.

Physical Demands

This position may require the occasional lifting and moving of items weighing up to 50 pounds, as well as frequent handling of heavy tools and file boxes. The role may involve traversing uneven terrain or maintaining a stationary position for extended durations.

Additional Requirements

All candidates must undergo a background investigation prior to employment, which includes:

  2. Reference verification
  3. Driver's license examination
