This role involves overseeing the acquisition of high-impact and technically complex materials, ensuring optimal vendor performance and adherence to compliance standards. The specialist will proactively identify and address purchasing challenges while assessing plans for necessary adjustments to projections.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Procures high-impact and complex materials to fulfill Manufacturing Resource Planning (MRP) requirements, ensuring timely support for both domestic and international demand.
- Accurately integrates international and subsidiary demands into monthly procurement activities as dictated by business needs.
- Manages order placements and coordinates vendor delivery schedules effectively.
- Continuously monitors potential issues, addressing product shortages, non-conforming materials, and managing excess or obsolete inventory.
- Identifies risks and formulates alternative strategies, evaluating their impact on product delivery and communicating solutions to internal teams, including sourcing and product management.
- Oversees daily vendor performance and fulfillment, ensuring compliance with contract terms and conditions, and determining necessary contract adjustments.
- Facilitates the development of strategic partnerships with suppliers to optimize inventory management and reduce lead times, conducting inventory analyses as needed.
- Addresses quality issues through troubleshooting and collaboration with internal and external teams to achieve resolutions, focusing on minimizing freight costs and material liabilities.
- Generates key reports with metrics and benchmarks to enhance purchasing and supplier management processes.
- Participates in reviewing annual forecasts and collaborates with planning teams to ensure inventory availability, also contributing to the management of excess and obsolete materials.
- Performs additional duties as required.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Education: Bachelor's degree in business administration, supply chain management, purchasing, or a related field.
Experience: A minimum of 5 years of experience in procurement or buying within a manufacturing or consumer goods environment is typically required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Proficient in solving complex problems and analyzing potential solutions using technical expertise and sound judgment.
- Skilled in Microsoft Office applications and MRP software, with the ability to create detailed reports that illustrate quality metrics, processes, benchmarks, and expense data for informed decision-making.
- Strong understanding of supply chain management, production processes, and inventory control methodologies.
- Comprehensive knowledge of receiving, quality assurance, engineering, and material flow operations.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills for effective interaction with internal teams, external vendors, and various organizational levels. Language proficiency may vary by business unit.
- Demonstrated negotiation skills and the ability to collaborate effectively within teams.
