Counselor - Community Support Specialist

We are seeking a highly motivated and compassionate Counselor - Community Support Specialist to join our team at the Institute for Community Living. As a key member of our direct care team, you will play a vital role in providing support and guidance to individuals with mental illness and substance abuse disorders.
Key Responsibilities- Ensure a Safe and Healthy Environment: Conduct regular inspections of the facility to ensure the safety and well-being of consumers and staff.
- Report Incidents and Concerns: Immediately report serious incidents, allegations, or sensitive situations to supervisors and complete incident reports as required.
- Provide Support and Guidance: Explain services, recreational activities, and programs available to consumers, instruct in daily living skills, socialization, and conflict resolution.
- Emergency Response: Execute emergency plans as outlined in the policy and procedure manual, ensuring the safety and well-being of consumers, staff, and visitors.
- Assist with Daily Living Tasks: Assist consumers with personal hygiene, grooming, nutrition, and daily living skills, ensuring they have access to necessary attire.
- Communication and Documentation: Review staff communication logs, make entries, and complete written forms and reports in a timely and accurate manner.
- Housekeeping and Maintenance: Perform housekeeping tasks to maintain a safe, clean, and comfortable environment for consumers.
- Accompany Consumers: Accompany consumers on scheduled or emergency visits to medical treatment facilities, social agencies, and other locations.
- Attendance and Availability: Comply with attendance rules, report to work as scheduled, and have availability to work beyond normal hours as needed.
- Training and Development: Attend regular team and staff meetings, in-service training, and staff development activities.
- Education and Experience: High school graduate or GED plus one year of related human services experience. Specialized training or education in human services may be substituted for experience.
- Skills and Abilities: Ability to work with consumers, families, and staff in a caring and respectful manner, with due understanding of and consideration for cultural differences. Ability to read and write at least at the secondary school level, complete written forms and reports, and communicate effectively with staff, consumers, families, and the public.
