Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced MRI Technologist Senior to join our team at Kaiser Permanente in Wailuku, Hawaii. As a key member of our imaging department, you will be responsible for performing Magnetic Resonance Imaging examinations, providing assistance to physicians during exams, and maintaining a high level of knowledge of complex MRI operation physics.

Essential Responsibilities:
  1. Perform specialized MRI studies, position patients, and provide immobilization means and patient counseling as needed.
  2. Instruct patients of exam requirements before and throughout the procedure using excellent communication skills.
  3. Select appropriate protocols to tailor scans for each patient, producing superior image quality.
  4. Interpret unusual tissue contract patterns and alter or add protocols as necessary to enhance diagnosis.
  5. Prepare hard copies from multiformat laser images and transfer images to magnetic tape for archival and storage.
  6. Maintain a high level of knowledge of MRI operation physics and identify potential equipment crises through troubleshooting methods.
  7. Document errors or equipment malfunctions in the service log when the Chief MRI Technologist is not available.
  8. Review requisitions, assemble patient records, and prepare previous cases for physician review.
  9. Maintain daily records of exams and communicate with referring physicians, educating them as necessary during site tours.
  10. Provide assistance to physicians during exams, recognize and report patient emergency situations, and maintain intravenous fluid, oxygen, and other life support systems.
  11. Maintain service records, logs equipment malfunctions, and reports service-related problems to the Chief MRI Technologist.
  12. Order and stock materials for the MRI department, log ordered supplies, and issue and complete forms for ordering as needed.
  13. Perform scheduling duties for the MRI department in the absence of the MRI clerk and Chief Technologist.
  14. Assure all monitors used in MRI are in operating order, discharge and recharge oxygen tanks, and report equipment malfunctions appropriately.
  15. Compile statistical data for end-of-month MRI reports, compute information, and log all data and MRI EOM form.
  16. Choose one case per month for educational purposes and technical evaluation, consult with the MRI section Chief Radiologist, and relay evaluation and critique to all MRI staff members.
  17. In the absence of the Chief MRI Technologist, coordinate with patient accounting on billing procedures for the MRI department, maintain pathology files, and log MRI exam reports as needed.
  18. In the absence of the Chief MRI Technologist, remain knowledgeable in the work-up of pediatric/anesthesia cases, follow policy and procedures, and coordinate with the MRI clerk, ordering physician, operating room staff, and surgi center as requested.
Requirements:
  • Two (2) years of MRI experience as a registered technologist.
  • Associates degree in radiologic technology or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Radiographer License (Hawaii) required at hire.
  • American Registry of Radiologic Technologists Certificate - Magnetic Resonance Imaging.
  • Basic Life Support from American Heart Association.
  • Radiologic Technologist Certification from American Registry of Radiologic Technologists.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • SIGNA experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of statistical data analysis techniques, industrial occupational operations, and Kaiser systems/organization.
  • One (1) year of computer tomography experience as a registered technologist, including experience or successful completion of a training program in the area of specialty, if applicable.
