MRI Technologist Senior

As a Senior MRI Technologist at Kaiser Permanente, you will play a critical role in providing high-quality imaging services to our patients. Under indirect supervision, you will perform Magnetic Resonance Imaging examinations, provide assistance to physicians during exams, and recognize and report patient emergency situations in the absence of nursing personnel.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform specialized MRI studies, position patients, and provide immobilization means and patient counseling as needed.
- Interpret unusual tissue contract patterns and alter or add protocols as necessary to enhance diagnosis.
- Prepare hard copies from multiformat laser images and transfer images to magnetic tape for archival and storage.
- Maintain a high level of knowledge of complex operation physics of Magnetic Resonance Imaging.
- Identify potential equipment crises by troubleshooting methods such as verifying proper connections of coils and lemo connectors.
- Document any errors or equipment malfunctions in the service log when the Chief MRI Technologist is not available.
- Review requisitions and assemble patient records, prepare previous cases for physician review, and maintain daily records of exams.
- Communicate with referring physicians and educate as necessary during site tours, remain able to educate and train others under direct supervision of the Chief MRI Technologist, and promote positive relationships with all referring physicians and staff members.
- Assure safety and comfort, physical and psychological needs of all patients throughout the entire examination, explain MRI exams in detail at onset, and provide assistance to physicians during exams.
- Maintain service records, logs equipment malfunctions, report and inform the Chief MRI Technologist of service-related problems, order and stock materials for the MRI department, log ordered supplies on the inventory sheet, and issue and complete forms for ordering as needed.
- Perform scheduling duties for the MRI department in the absence of the MRI clerk and the MRI Chief Technologist, assure all monitors used in MRI are in operating order, discharge and recharge oxygen tanks, and report all equipment malfunctions appropriately.
- Under the direction of the Chief MRI Technologist, compile statistical data for end-of-month MRI reports, compute information, and log all data and MRI EOM form.
- Choose one case per month for educational purposes and technical evaluation, consult with the MRI section Chief Radiologist to help obtain specific points of interest, relay evaluation, critique, etc., to all MRI staff members.
- In the absence of the Chief MRI Technologist, coordinate with patient accounting on billing procedures for the MRI department, maintain pathology files, and log MRI exam reports as needed.
- In the absence of the Chief MRI Technologist, remain knowledgeable in the work-up of pediatric/anesthesia cases, follow policy and procedures as written, coordinate with the MRI clerk, ordering physician, operating room staff, and surgi center as requested, obtain patient medical records charts, complete essential paperwork, verify consent forms and post-procedure orders are complete and appropriate.
- Demonstrate sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities in the area of specialization, demonstrate knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to provide care and/or service appropriate to age groups served, demonstrate knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to provide culturally sensitive care and/or service, and perform other duties and accept responsibility as assigned.
Requirements:
- Two (2) years (4,160 hours) MRI experience as a registered technologist.
- Associates degree in radiologic technology or equivalent combination of education (lesser) and experience may be considered in lieu of requirements.
- Radiographer License (Hawaii) required at hire.
- American Registry of Radiologic Technologists Certificate - Magnetic Resonance Imaging.
- Basic Life Support from the American Heart Association.
- Radiologic Technologist Certification from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Signa experience.
- Demonstrated knowledge of statistical data analysis techniques, industrial occupational operations, and Kaiser systems/organization.
- One (1) year (2,080 hours) computer tomography experience as a registered technologist, including experience or successful completion of training program (pre-hire, post-hire, or on-the-job) in the area of specialty, if applicable.
