Job Summary

At Crossroads Hospice & Palliative Care, we are seeking a skilled Billing Assistant to join our team. As a key member of our office team, you will play a vital role in ensuring the compassionate care provided to our patients and their families is supported by accurate and timely billing processes.

Responsibilities
  • Referral and Pre-Authorization Management: Obtain referrals and pre-authorizations as required for procedures, ensuring seamless coordination with our interdisciplinary teams.
  • Eligibility and Benefit Verification: Check eligibility and benefit verification for patients, guaranteeing that our billing processes align with insurance guidelines.
  • Claim Preparation and Submission: Prepare, review, and transmit claims using billing software, including electronic and paper claim processing, to ensure accurate and timely reimbursement.
  • Insurance Knowledge and Compliance: Possess in-depth knowledge of insurance guidelines, including HMO/PPO, Medicare, and state Medicaid, to ensure compliance and optimal reimbursement.
  • Claim Follow-Up and Resolution: Follow up on unpaid claims within the standard billing cycle timeframe, researching and resolving discrepancies, denials, and appeals to minimize delays.
  • Secondary and Tertiary Insurance Identification and Billing: Identify and bill secondary or tertiary insurance, ensuring that all accounts are reviewed for insurance or patient follow-up.
  • Patient Communication and Payment Plans: Answer patient or insurance telephone inquiries, set up patient payment plans, and work collection accounts to maintain positive relationships with patients and families.
  • Software Updates and Maintenance: Update billing software with rate changes, ensuring that our systems remain current and efficient.
Requirements
  • Education: High school diploma, with a degree in Business Administration, Accounting, or Health Care Administration preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of 1 to 3 years of experience in a medical office setting, with knowledge of HMO/PPO, Medicare, Medicaid, and other payer requirements and systems.
  • Skills: Knowledge of accounting and bookkeeping procedures, medical terminology, and customer service skills for interacting with patients and families of diverse ages and backgrounds.
