Position Overview

The Project Engineer plays a crucial role in supporting the Preconstruction Manager and Project Manager to ensure that the project estimate and execution align with the standards set by Liles Construction Company.

Key Responsibilities
As a Project Engineer, you will:

  • Assist tradespeople in interpreting project designs and ensure adherence to construction plans.
  • Support project controls, including budgeting, scheduling, and planning activities.
  • Collaborate with the assigned Project Manager on the design and execution of multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Act as a versatile resource for both Preconstruction and Construction departments.

This is an entry-level position with opportunities for growth and career advancement.

Location
This role is based in Concord, NC.

  • Understanding of the Invitation to Bid process.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting project specifications and drawings.
  • Strong communication skills to build relationships with subcontractors and suppliers.
  • Experience with take-offs using Bluebeam & Planswift.
  • Familiarity with various Preconstruction & Construction-related Excel spreadsheets.
  • Support the Preconstruction Team in reviewing project documents and performing subcontractor bid analysis.

Project Compliance
Ensure compliance with project construction by becoming thoroughly familiar with assigned project plans and specifications. Responsibilities include:

  • Reviewing and submitting shop drawings, samples, and material lists.
  • Maintaining logs for shop drawings, requests for clarification, and change requests.
  • Identifying constructability issues and communicating them to the architect.
  • Attending project team meetings and distributing meeting minutes.

Project Management Support
Work closely with the Superintendent and Project Manager to:

  • Prepare and update project schedules.
  • Publish weekly progress reports for assigned projects.
  • Assist in the bidding process and scope development for trade contractors.

Safety and Compliance
Instill a culture of safety by adhering to all safety policies and reporting unsafe activities. Responsibilities also include:

  • Updating and implementing software programs for collaboration and document management.
  • Performing other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications
To be considered for this role, candidates should possess:

  • A Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, construction management, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Flexibility to adapt plans and behaviors to meet goals.
  • Cooperative spirit and willingness to assist others.
  • Ability to learn quickly and apply new information effectively.
  • Basic understanding of OSHA and company safety requirements.
  • Problem-solving skills to navigate complex situations.
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints.
  • One year of field experience is preferred.
  • Familiarity with scheduling programs is a plus.
  • Basic Spanish language skills are preferred.
  • Technical aptitude to learn new software programs.
