Position Summary

The Senior Tax Analyst specializing in State and Local Tax (SALT) plays a crucial role in managing both direct and indirect state and local income tax obligations. This position involves overseeing tax compliance, contributing to the tax provision process, addressing state and local tax inquiries, and engaging in various ad hoc projects as required within the organization.

Key Responsibilities

The following duties are essential to the role, with additional tasks assigned as necessary:

  • Deliver exceptional service to physician partners through comprehensive annual K-1 tax reporting.
  • Facilitate the outsourced compliance process for state and local tax returns by collaborating with external advisors to ensure timely submission of income tax returns and payments across all jurisdictions, ensuring adherence to SALT filing requirements.
  • Review and assess state and local tax returns and supporting documentation for corporations and partnerships prepared by external advisors.
  • Calculate quarterly estimated state and local income tax obligations for corporations and partnerships.
  • Assist in the preparation of state and local tax extension calculations and associated payments.
  • Contribute to the tax provision process.
  • Conduct thorough technical tax research for compliance, provision, and various ad hoc projects.
  • Prepare detailed tax workpapers and review those generated by junior staff.
  • Identify and implement process enhancements within the tax department.
  • Engage in tax data automation initiatives utilizing tools such as Excel, Alteryx, and Tableau.
  • Collaborate with internal teams (accounting, legal, IT) to gather necessary information for diverse tax projects.
  • Address and resolve state and local tax notices.
  • Provide support for additional indirect tax functions, including sales and use tax and property tax.
  • Assist during governmental tax audits by compiling information and drafting responses.
  • Research and evaluate state and local regulatory changes and their implications for the organization.
  • Analyze the state and local tax consequences of various transactions.
  • Offer support for special projects and processes within the tax department, including federal tax matters.
