Position Summary

The Senior Tax Analyst specializing in State and Local Tax (SALT) plays a crucial role in managing both direct and indirect state and local income tax obligations. This position encompasses compliance activities, tax provision processes, and addressing various state and local tax inquiries and projects as they arise within the organization.

Key Responsibilities

The following duties are essential to the role, with additional tasks assigned as necessary:

  • Deliver exceptional service to physician partners through the annual K-1 tax reporting process.
  • Facilitate the outsourced compliance process for state and local tax returns by collaborating with external advisors to ensure timely submission of income tax returns and payments across all jurisdictions, while adhering to SALT filing requirements.
  • Review and assess state and local tax returns and supporting documentation for corporations and partnerships prepared by external advisors.
  • Calculate quarterly estimated state and local income tax obligations for corporations and partnerships.
  • Assist in the preparation of state and local tax extension calculations and associated payments.
  • Support the tax provision process.
  • Conduct technical tax research to ensure compliance and support provision and ad hoc research projects.
  • Develop and maintain well-documented tax workpapers, reviewing those prepared by junior staff.
  • Contribute to the identification and implementation of process enhancements within the tax department.
  • Engage in various tax data automation initiatives utilizing tools such as Excel, Alteryx, and Tableau.
  • Collaborate with internal teams (accounting, legal, IT) to gather necessary information for diverse tax projects.
  • Address and resolve state and local tax notices.
  • Provide support for additional indirect tax functions, including sales and use tax as well as property tax.
  • Assist during governmental tax audits by gathering required information and drafting responses.
  • Research and analyze developments in state and local regulations to assess their impact on the organization.
  • Aid in evaluating the state and local tax implications of various business transactions.
  • Offer support for special projects and processes within the tax department as needed, including federal tax matters.
