Peer Support Specialist

This is an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Peer Support Specialist at Lakes Region Mental Health Center. We are seeking a highly motivated and organized individual who can work as part of a supportive, multi-disciplinary team to provide crisis intervention services to individuals with mental illness and substance use disorders.
Key Responsibilities- Develop meaningful relationships with patients and provide support to help them advocate for themselves.
- Work as part of an interdisciplinary team to provide crisis intervention services and divert individuals from emergency room care and hospitalizations.
- Use own life experience to engage individuals in crisis and assist them in accessing services and supports.
- Collaborate with outside agencies, including hospitals, community-based agencies, and first responders.
- Complete documentation and participate in team meetings.
- A high school diploma or equivalent is required, with a relevant degree preferred.
- Ability to exercise sound clinical judgment in routine, urgent, and emergent clinical situations.
- Lived experience with mental illness and the ability to meet the essential requirements of the job is required.
- Position requires a high level of professionalism and ethical behaviors.
- Ability to sensitively work with individuals from diverse backgrounds and cultures.
- Certification as a Peer Specialist or Recovery Coach is preferred.
- A valid driver's license and auto insurance.
