Job Overview

This role involves establishing a robust research initiative focused on small ruminant biosecurity, particularly in the field of immunology. The successful candidate will showcase proficiency in advanced methodologies within cell and molecular biology and possess a proven track record of exemplary scholarly research and professional achievements in animal health. Additionally, this position will contribute to the development of undergraduate and graduate curricula in the relevant area of expertise. This is a fully funded research role supported by USDA Evans-Allen formula funding, with a competitive salary based on experience. Ongoing employment in this capacity is dependent on meeting research performance metrics, including securing external funding and sustaining USDA Evans-Allen support. This is a non-tenure track, 9-month position with a dedicated research focus, offering summer salary support for the initial three years of employment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Designs, develops, and sustains an independent research program in Animal Sciences with a focus on biosecurity and immunology.
  • Oversees ongoing laboratory operations; manages and mentors research support staff; conducts regular lab meetings and engages in program development and enhancement.
  • Collaborates on interdisciplinary research with other scientists in the animal systems group; authors and publishes research findings; pursues grant opportunities to bolster external funding for program activities.
  • Engages in professional and scientific conferences, sharing research with various stakeholders and adhering to institutional policies regarding animal care and use.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
  • Ph.D. in a relevant field or discipline.
  • A minimum of four (4) years of related experience.
Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Familiarity with laboratory and technical equipment.
  • Understanding of statistical analysis and related software.
  • Knowledge of research methodologies in practical and/or basic sciences and familiarity with scientific publications.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and collaborate effectively with colleagues.
  • Capacity to communicate information clearly and succinctly.
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience or strong interest in reproductive immunology.
  • Dedication to student development.
  • Interest in multidisciplinary research and outreach/extension activities.
