POSITION SUMMARY:
The Facilities Maintenance Technician is responsible for ensuring that buildings and associated structures are maintained in optimal condition. This role involves assessing the need for repairs or modifications and assisting in the overall upkeep of the facility. The technician will employ various maintenance techniques and tools to construct, modify, repair, and install elements such as walls, floors, ceilings, windows, and doors. Additionally, the technician will evaluate buildings to identify repair needs and create sketches or layouts for the required work.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Repair and modify building components, including doors, cabinetry, and flooring.
- Conduct inspections to identify carpentry repair needs, estimating labor and material costs for management.
- Create and interpret sketches, blueprints, and work layouts.
- Perform structural repairs and improvements, including ceiling modifications and surface preparations for painting.
- Engage in related tasks such as framing, crafting signs, and maintaining tools.
- Collaborate with museum staff and management to address emergencies and schedule projects.
- Operate lifts and set up staging for safe access during maintenance work.
- Respond to emergency situations that may pose risks to staff and visitors, following established safety protocols.
WORK SCHEDULE:
This is a full-time position, requiring 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday.
REPORTING STRUCTURE:
Reports to the Facilities Manager.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- A minimum of 4 years of experience in carpentry or a related field.
- Proficiency in using power tools and hand tools.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Capacity to work independently and interpret technical drawings.
- Familiarity with Electronic Work Order Systems is a plus.
- Physical stamina to stand for extended periods.
COMPENSATION:
This position is classified as Non-Exempt (Hourly). Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience.
