Job Title: Part-Time Faculty Position in Voice

Job Summary:

New England Conservatory of Music is seeking a dynamic and versatile artist-teacher to join our voice faculty. The ideal candidate will be an innovative educator who teaches healthy singing habits to undergraduate, graduate, and pre-professional singers in a wide range of repertoire.

Responsibilities:

  • Teach individual studio voice lessons to graduate and undergraduate students
  • Recruit, retain, and mentor a diverse student body of the highest quality
  • Attend performances of studio students and the department
  • Attend and participate in admissions auditions and end-of-year promotionals (performance examinations)
  • Comply with curriculum and pedagogical standards set by Department Chair and NEC's administration
  • Participate in faculty trainings, departmental meetings, and the life of the conservatory
  • Provide career guidance and mentorship to students

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or master's degree and significant performance experience required, or commensurate experience as a high-level performer and teacher
  • Minimum of 3 years of demonstrated success in teaching at the collegiate level and/or commensurate experience as a regular guest artist for masterclasses during an extended performance career; conservatory experience preferred
  • Willingness and ability to teach a wide range of singers from early undergraduates through pre-professional
  • Exceptional judgment, discretion, and integrity when working with students in an educational environment; Ability to communicate effectively with students, other faculty, and staff
  • Demonstrated dedication to supporting the development of musicians and promoting music's role in society
  • Breadth of knowledge of opera and song literature in multiple languages, genres, and styles
  • Language and lyric diction competency
  • Awareness of current trends in classical voice/opera conservatory programs and the profession
  • Commitment to NEC's values of cultural equity and belonging

Search Process:

  • Video or audio recordings of performances of at least four different pieces in a range of styles/languages or two videos of recent master classes or private lessons
  • Names of three references

Finalists will be chosen by faculty committee and invited to campus for interviews with key stakeholders and to teach simple lessons and a master class during the fall semester.
