Position Overview

The New England Conservatory of Music (NEC) is a prestigious independent institution, celebrated globally for its excellence in music education. NEC nurtures a vibrant community of musicians from over 40 countries, offering unparalleled training and performance opportunities through a faculty of 225 distinguished artist-teachers and scholars. The Conservatory is dedicated to expanding the horizons of music education, providing programs in classical, jazz, and Contemporary Improvisation, along with innovative interdisciplinary studies such as Entrepreneurial Musicianship and Community Performances & Partnerships.

We are in search of a skilled and adaptable Marketing & Communications Writer to enhance our Marketing, Communications, and External Relations team. This role is pivotal in crafting engaging written content across diverse platforms, aimed at bolstering NEC's marketing and communication strategies. The ideal candidate will possess a flair for creative writing, a solid grasp of SEO techniques, and the ability to tailor their writing style to various formats.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Produce captivating news articles by identifying relevant topics, conducting thorough research, and interviewing key individuals.
  • Create original content for features, reports, print materials, digital advertisements, promotional campaigns, and web content that resonate with both the NEC community and a broader audience, ensuring consistency with NEC's brand voice.
  • Develop and implement email marketing strategies, including newsletters and targeted communications.
  • Maintain an editorial calendar for news stories, newsletters, social media, and website content, collaborating with various departments to ensure timely updates.
  • Apply SEO best practices to web content to enhance visibility and engagement.
  • Act as the primary copy editor for NEC, ensuring a uniform tone and quality across all published materials.
  • Generate social media content and work closely with the Digital Content Coordinator to ensure cohesive messaging.
  • Assist in sourcing media for digital platforms, attending events, and conducting interviews.
  • Adapt content length for various distribution channels, including websites and newsletters.
  • Collaborate with the Admissions team to create compelling marketing materials.
Additional Responsibilities:
  • Engage with students, alumni, faculty, and staff to gather editorial content.
  • Contribute to strategic content development and planning.
  • Oversee freelance writing assignments and manage external contributors.
  • Conduct research on industry trends and competitor strategies.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Journalism, English, Communications, Marketing, or a related discipline.
  • 3-5 years of demonstrated experience in writing across various mediums.
  • Strong SEO knowledge and familiarity with keyword research tools.
  • Experience with email marketing platforms.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with a keen attention to detail.
  • Adept at collaborating with cross-functional teams and meeting deadlines.
  • Strong organizational abilities to manage multiple projects effectively.
