Position Summary

The Internal Audit Manager is vital in safeguarding the integrity and operational efficiency of the financial institution. Working closely with the Chief Risk Officer, the Internal Audit Manager establishes the scope and timing of audit initiatives and objectives. This role is responsible for executing complex risk-based audits in line with the annual audit strategy. The manager will also serve as the primary contact for outsourced audits in high-risk areas, offering recommendations for enhancing internal controls and preparing audit findings for the Audit Committee. Additionally, the manager will evaluate the effectiveness of accounting, financial, information systems, and other operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct comprehensive risk assessments for various business sectors, identifying existing controls to mitigate risks. Collaborate with the Chief Risk Officer to formulate an Annual Risk Assessment for internal audit planning and scheduling. Define the scope and objectives for audits, develop relevant testing plans, and execute audit procedures to ensure operational controls are effective.
  • Document and execute audit work, including testing design and operational effectiveness. Provide evaluations on audited areas concerning personnel performance, accounting reliability, and internal control effectiveness.
  • Act as the Audit Liaison for outsourced audits, ensuring the success of these projects in complex or higher-risk areas.
  • Work collaboratively with departments to implement corrective actions based on audit findings, ensuring accuracy in reporting issues and coordinating with management to address root causes.
  • Identify and document financial statement risks, internal control weaknesses, and operational inefficiencies, serving as the liaison between the Audit Committee and the organization. Responsible for executing the Board-approved Audit Policy and conducting additional internal control monitoring as required.

Compliance Responsibilities:

  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of Bank Secrecy Act regulations and all relevant regulatory, security, and Bank policies and procedures while performing assigned tasks.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • A minimum of five years of audit experience, preferably in banking or related financial operations.
  • Proven experience in establishing and executing internal audit functions with a solid understanding of internal control environments in financial institutions.
  • Familiarity with FDICIA implementation for financial institutions exceeding $1 Billion in assets.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • CPA or CIA certification is preferred.

Required Skills and Abilities:

  • In-depth knowledge of internal audit methodologies, policies, and compliance auditing techniques.
  • Ability to analyze data and devise strategies for operational improvement.
  • Proficiency in computer-intensive environments, understanding electronic system interfaces, and intermediate skills in data retrieval and conversion for operational use.
