POSITION SUMMARY:

The role of the Respiratory Care Specialist is to deliver high-quality respiratory services to our patients, encompassing both routine and advanced procedures through a diverse array of techniques and equipment. This position involves collaboration with a multidisciplinary team and effective communication with all stakeholders. The specialist is responsible for ensuring that patient care adheres to the quality standards set forth by the institution, department, and regulatory bodies. This role demands accountability for maintaining the skills and knowledge essential for providing safe, effective, and developmentally appropriate respiratory care to patients of all ages, from neonates to adolescents. In conjunction with the care team, the specialist is accountable for achieving patient outcomes that align with the exemplary standards of care upheld by our institution.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Evaluates patients' clinical conditions, monitors progress towards objectives, and suggests appropriate interventions to formulate a care plan.
  • Collaborates with the care team to anticipate and address patients' respiratory care requirements, ensuring optimal clinical outcomes.
  • Safely executes a variety of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures in accordance with established standards and protocols to ensure patient safety.
  • Utilizes critical thinking and sound judgment to analyze urgent situations and facilitate effective problem resolution.
  • Accurately interprets and communicates patient results to support comprehensive patient care.
  • Documents all interventions and responses to therapies in the electronic medical record, ensuring compliance and utility of documentation.
  • Engages with patients, families, and the interdisciplinary team to explain therapeutic modalities in a clear and comprehensible manner, tailored to individual learning styles and diversity.
  • Demonstrates effective teamwork, particularly in high-pressure situations with rapidly changing priorities, to achieve superior patient outcomes.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Associate's Degree in a relevant field.
  • Current licensure as a Respiratory Therapist in Florida.
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential from the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) or Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) credential from the NBRC, or an equivalent credential recognized by the NBRC.
  • Graduation from a Registered Respiratory Therapy Program accredited by the Commission of Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC).
  • Preferred: Minimum of 1 year of experience as a Respiratory Therapist (RRT).
  • No prior experience required for new graduate Registered Respiratory Therapists.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association.
  • Current Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification from the American Heart Association, or to be obtained within the orientation period.
  • Current Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification if working in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
