Qualifications:
Education

High School Diploma or GED Required

Completion of a Medical Assistant training program Required

Licenses and Certifications

Completion of an accredited training program OR completion of a non-accredited training program and successful passage of the medical assistant examination from a certifying organization recognized by either the National Commission for Certifying Agencies or the American National Standards Institute as outlined by the Arizona Administrative Code (Chapter 16 – Arizona Medical Board - R and R OR completion of a United States Armed Forces medical services training program Required

Basic Life Support (BLS) certification Required

Fingerprint Clearance Card - State Must possess a current Fingerprint Clearance card, or apply and be eligible for one within seven (7) working days after employment (Pediatric Behavioral Health Sites ONLY) Required

Responsibilities:
Job Summary

The Medical Assistant delivers essential front and back office support to healthcare professionals. Responsibilities include escorting patients to examination rooms and ensuring they are clean, organized, and well-stocked. A solid understanding of medical front and back office operations is essential. Provides excellent phone service by scheduling appointments or directing callers to the appropriate personnel. Responds promptly to patient messages and maintains accurate patient information, ensuring that charts and paperwork are filed correctly. Maintains medical records.


Under the guidance of a Provider, the Medical Assistant carries out various tasks related to patient examination and treatment.

May be assigned to a specialist. The Medical Assistant adopts a proactive approach, utilizing available resources to effectively serve the patient population. Performs a range of clerical support tasks, including reception duties, telephone management, scheduling, message handling, and data entry.

Employs knowledge and skills to deliver appropriate care in line with the organization's policies, procedures, and protocols, as well as Arizona validated competencies.

The Medical Assistant collaborates within a team framework to enhance the patient experience, foster better communication and access to care, and support processes that will elevate patient satisfaction.

Prepares examination rooms for patient assessments.

Escorts patients to the examination area, gathers a brief medical history, documents the chief complaint, and takes vital signs, including weight and temperature.

Prepares patients for examinations, assists the physician/clinician during assessments and any special procedures.


May travel to off-site locations to conduct diagnostic tests and assist in physical exam components, TB testing, injections, phlebotomy, and more.

May administer and document injections and TB tests under the supervision and orders of the physician.

Performs venipuncture and collects specimens, conducts CLIA waived lab tests.

Executes office procedures such as PFT, UDS, EBT, EKG, and fit testing, within the scope of practice as directed by the provider.

Handles incoming calls from patients, pharmacies, and others; documents and communicates information to the provider for action. Contacts pharmacies with approved medication orders/refills.


Performs various front office tasks as needed, including reception, telephone management, chart maintenance, insurance documentation, and scheduling.

Organizes and communicates with insurance companies for authorizations related to therapies, testing, and specialist referrals. Provides suitable referrals to case management for employees.
Completes other related duties as assigned.

Performs additional tasks as required.
