Position Summary:

The Bilingual (Spanish) Community Safety and Security Specialist plays a crucial role in ensuring the safety and security of our shelter community. This position leads the Community Safety and Security team, overseeing the operational integrity of our safety infrastructure, engaging with stakeholders to assess safety needs, and equipping community members with the knowledge to protect one another through training and support initiatives. A strong background in trauma-informed care and social services is highly valued. Certification in Wicklander Interview and investigative skills is advantageous. Bilingual (Spanish) proficiency is mandatory for this role.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the Community Safety Manager to implement essential training programs for staff and security personnel.
  • Oversee daily operations and quality assurance for new security personnel.
  • Facilitate security and safety training for all current and incoming staff members.
  • Develop and execute safety plans to address concerns and enhance security awareness among guests and staff.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations through regular audits.
  • Work alongside the Trauma Informed Care Committee to promote responsive safety practices.
  • Conduct safety investigations in collaboration with the Community Safety Manager, utilizing reports generated from our internal systems.
  • Prepare detailed investigative reports for relevant authorities.
  • Utilize CCTV systems to assist in investigations and audits.
  • Act as a liaison with law enforcement and emergency services.
  • Provide testimony in court for cases related to investigations from our organization or surrounding areas.
  • Collaborate with the Resident Resources Department to address guest-related issues.
  • Be trained to respond to medical emergencies and activate emergency protocols.
  • Handle emergency calls outside of regular hours as necessary.
  • Contribute to the organization's racial equity initiatives.

Compensation and Benefits:

Hourly Rate: $27.50

Schedule: Tuesday to Saturday, 2:30 p.m. - 11:00 p.m.

Qualifications:

  • Experience in trauma-informed care or social services is preferred.
  • High school diploma or GED is required.
  • Bachelor's degree in Public Safety or Criminal Justice is preferred.
  • Bilingual (Spanish) is required.
  • Ability to perform physical tasks, including lifting over 50 lbs.
  • Must obtain First Aid/CPR/AED certification within 30 days of hire.
  • Must complete De-escalation training within 60 days of hire.
  • Must receive NARCAN training within 30 days of hire.
  • Proficient in Microsoft 365 applications.
  • Familiarity with security technologies and practices.
  • Understanding of criminal justice issues affecting marginalized communities.
  • Experience in committee work and collaboration with diverse teams is desirable.
