Position Overview

The Safety and Security Coordinator plays a vital role in ensuring a secure environment for all clients and staff. This position requires a commitment to maintaining safety protocols and responding effectively to various situations.

Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED with a minimum of one year of experience in a client-facing role, ideally within a shelter setting.
  • Exceptional observational skills and a keen attention to detail.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication abilities, particularly in de-escalation techniques.
  • Ability to work effectively with a diverse clientele while upholding confidentiality and adhering to ethical and legal standards.
  • Proficient in computer applications, including the Microsoft Office Suite and security camera systems.
  • A valid Driver's License and compliance with MVR driver's qualifications are preferred.
  • Must successfully pass background checks.
  • Willingness to embrace and support the mission and objectives of The Salvation Army.
  • Capability to complete certifications in CPR/First Aid, CPI, and Bloodborne Pathogens.
Key Responsibilities

In this role, you will:

  • Effectively identify and respond to crisis situations, employing de-escalation techniques and, if necessary, approved physical intervention methods as a last resort.
  • Adhere to the Harbor Light Safety and Security Management Plan.
  • Address safety concerns promptly, coordinating with emergency personnel or management as required.
  • Provide escort services for staff, visitors, and clients when necessary.
Additional Duties

Maintain professional, accurate, and timely communication, both verbal and written. Responsibilities include:

  • Completing all necessary documentation, including logs, incident reports, and statistical data, in a timely manner.
  • Ensuring that areas contaminated with bodily fluids are cleaned and disinfected safely and efficiently.
Working Conditions

This position typically does not involve hazardous or significantly unpleasant physical conditions, although emotional distress may arise due to varying situations involving staff and clients.
