Health Safety Manager

Job Summary:
Orion Group Holdings is seeking a highly skilled Health Safety Manager to join our team. As a key member of our safety team, you will be responsible for ensuring the effective execution and technical support of our Health, Safety, and Environmental Programs at assigned locations.
Key Responsibilities:
* Ensure that field safety programs and policies are in place to promote a safe work environment and ensure compliance with state and federal regulatory guidelines.
* Monitor and implement Employee Safety, Incident Prevention Programs, and Safe Work Practices.
* Work with the safety management team to establish short-term and long-term goals and objectives for the Company's Health, Safety, & Environmental programs.
* Maintain a working knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local regulations, including Coast Guard, USACE, and other maritime rules, on safety, health, and environmental issues to promote compliance in each of these areas.
Specific Responsibilities:
* Maintain a proactive internal safety audit program at project sites and locations to monitor operational employee work practices to ensure compliance with company safety standards.
* Participate in addressing incidents, and near misses through timely fact-finding investigation, determining root cause, and implementing corrective and preventative actions.
* Recommend changes to standard operating procedures and safety policies and practices.
* Contribute to the periodic updating and distribution of the Company's Healthy, Safety and Environmental (HS&E) Policies and Procedures and other Company publications distributed.
* Provide support and ensures consistency in the interpretation and implementation of HS&E policies, practices, and procedures.
* Keeps Regional HS&E Management and Project Management informed on safety and health issues and progress toward accomplishing safety goals and objectives.
* Perform workplace safety orientations for new employees and refresher workplace safety training for existing employees. Develops improvements and modifications, as necessary.
* Assist the Regional HS&E Manager, Director of HS&E, and Vice President of Risk Management with claims management activities.
* Monitor and promote corporate safety initiatives, including the “Target Zero” philosophy, safety recognition. Actively promotes recognition of successful efforts of employees and management to participate and improve daily work practices and overall safety performance.
* Promote Company safety initiatives by participating in professional activities, such as the American Society of Safety Professionals and other local safety organizations.
* Participates and lead other Safety and Environmental initiatives that will contribute to the success of the Company's HS&E programs.
* Responsible and accountable for own personal safety.
* Responsible and accountable for the safety of all co-workers and visitors.
* Authorized and obligated to stop work on any task or series of tasks whenever an unsafe condition or situation is anticipated or observed.
* Complies with all applicable laws, regulations, and Company policies and procedures and is subject to appropriate disciplinary action (including dismissal) for failure to do so.
* Reports any/all violations of applicable laws, regulations, or Company policies and procedures promptly and is subject to appropriate disciplinary action (including dismissal) for failure to do so.
* Performs other related administrative and technical duties as immediate supervision may be assigned or requested (such as certification training, safety training, procedure review, etc.).
Requirements:
* Experienced HS&E Supervisor Position: 5 years of safety and health experience in a construction environment is required.
* Must have an OSHA 500.
* A Bachelors Degree in Safety and Health Management, Occupational Safety or related discipline is preferred.
* BCSP Credentials are preferred and encouraged.
* The successful candidate must have a working knowledge of Safety Management, local, state, and federal Safety Regulations, Incident Prevention, Emergency Response, Risk Management, and standard safety Policies & Procedures.
* This individual must also possess exceptional training and communication skills (verbal and writing) and efficiency in Microsoft Office. Must be able to effectively interface with employees at all levels of the organization.
