This role is accessible to the general public and all current employees of the City who are part of the collective bargaining agreement with the American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) Bargaining Units 1, 3, 4 & 5. Role Responsibilities:
The City of Chicago is looking for a Senior Civil Engineer to oversee complex infrastructure and construction projects, including maintenance and renovation efforts. This position may also involve supervising a small team of engineers while managing personal project responsibilities. Key duties include:
- Updating status reports for ongoing construction contracts.
- Preparing regular progress documentation for construction projects.
- Managing project documentation and coordinating audits.
- Engaging with Resident Engineers to address outstanding issues related to contracts.
- Creating payment vouchers and change order packages for construction contracts.
- Facilitating payment reconciliations between the City and contractors.
- Organizing and leading meetings with stakeholders, management, and contractors.
- Conducting audits for project closeouts.
- Contributing to the development of data management systems.
- Providing insights on construction management software enhancements.
Qualifications:
Applicants must possess a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related field from an accredited institution, accompanied by three years of progressively responsible experience in Civil Engineering, including at least one year in a supervisory capacity. Alternatively, an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered, provided the minimum degree requirement is satisfied.
Registration as a Professional Engineer (P.E.) is mandatory, with candidates expected to have obtained this certification in the State of Illinois by the time of employment. A valid driver's license from the State of Illinois may also be required for certain positions.
