Pacific Rail Services is seeking a skilled Railroad Operations Specialist to join our team at the Union Pacific Houston Auto Terminal.

We are a leading provider of intermodal ramp services, and we're committed to delivering exceptional service to our clients. As a Railroad Operations Specialist, you will play a vital role in ensuring the safe and efficient movement of rail equipment within our facility.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist Train Engineers with the operation of locomotives, rail cars, and tracks within the rail yard.
  • Maintain an organized and efficient rail yard by moving rail cars and freeing tracks for incoming traffic.
  • Manage rail track switches to direct rail cars to designated locations.
  • Connect and disconnect rail air hoses as needed to consolidate rail cars effectively.
  • Lead job briefings with supervisors and crew members prior to work commencement.
  • Ensure compliance with HAZMAT and OSHA regulations, reporting any incidents promptly to the supervisor.
  • Wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times, including safety vests, glasses, hearing protection, and safety toe boots.
  • Communicate effectively with Train Engineers/Operators and crew members using verbal, hand, or radio signals.
  • Participate in daily safety briefings.
  • Inspect rail equipment regularly for damage and notify the operator and supervisor immediately if any issues are detected.
  • Operate all rail equipment safely and efficiently while maintaining awareness of surroundings, including potential hazards on the ground surface.

Qualifications:

  • Valid driver's license required.
  • Prior Conductor/Engineer experience is essential.
  • Advanced knowledge of the railroad industry gained through vocational education, apprenticeship, on-the-job training, or similar experience.
  • Ability to pass a vision and hearing test.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for coordinating with various individuals.

Work Environment:

This position requires working in an outdoor environment with exposure to varying weather conditions.
