Ensures the comprehensive safety and security of the School community and its property against threats such as fire, theft, vandalism, and unauthorized access.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Regularly patrols, either on foot or in a vehicle, all areas of the School, including buildings and grounds, and may maintain a designated post.
  • Implements all School policies, regulations, and guidelines.
  • Inspects doors, windows, and gates to ensure they are secure. Responsible for locking and unlocking facilities for authorized personnel according to established protocols.
  • Observes all School premises for unauthorized or suspicious individuals, preventing illegal access to the grounds and facilities.
  • Issues warnings for rule violations, such as loitering or possession of prohibited items. Takes action against individuals involved in suspicious or unlawful activities and reports incidents to the appropriate authorities.
  • Responds to all emergency calls, including fire alarms, intruder alerts, and medical emergencies.
  • Monitors for and reports safety hazards, including fire risks and maintenance issues.
  • Maintains vigilance for signs of smoke or unusual odors, as well as sounds that are out of the ordinary.
  • Assists with traffic management, parking, and crowd control as needed.
  • Supports the Health Center in transporting patients or materials when required.
  • Activates alarms or contacts emergency services in case of fire or unauthorized presence.
  • Participates in evacuation drills as directed by supervisory staff.
  • Keeps a daily log of incidents, including property damage, rule violations, and unusual occurrences.
  • May adjust temperature controls in buildings and restart heating systems as necessary.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.

Education and Experience: High school diploma or equivalent and two years of relevant experience or training; or a combination of education and experience.

Language Proficiency: Ability to read and interpret safety regulations, operating instructions, and procedural manuals. Capable of writing routine reports and communicating effectively with the School community and visitors.

Mathematical Skills: Proficient in basic arithmetic operations and able to interpret data such as rates and ratios.

Reasoning Skills: Ability to apply common sense to follow instructions in various formats. Capable of handling complex situations calmly and effectively interacting with diverse individuals.

Certificates and Licenses: Must possess a valid driver's license with a clean driving record. Certification in First Aid and CPR is required.

Additional Skills: Ability to assess mechanical and electrical issues to determine if maintenance assistance is needed. Must respond appropriately to alarms and emergency calls. All shifts require handling of locks and keys, and maintaining confidentiality is essential.

  • Regularly required to walk, talk, hear, and utilize the sense of smell.
  • Frequently required to stand, use hands for handling objects, and reach with arms.
  • Occasionally required to sit, climb, balance, and perform bending or crouching movements.
  • Patrolling requires frequent movement up and down stairs.
  • Occasionally required to lift and/or move items weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment: The characteristics of the work environment are representative of those an employee may encounter while performing the essential functions of this role.
  • Regularly required to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Occasionally required to work near moving mechanical parts and at heights.
  • Occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles and to hazardous chemicals.
  • Occasionally at risk of electrical shock.
The noise level in the work environment is typically moderate.

Comments:

On-Call officers work on a part-time basis to cover shifts as needed. Uniforms provided by the School must be worn at all times while on duty and should be kept clean and presentable.
