About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Roving Crew Inspector to join our team at the Idaho State Department of Agriculture. As a key member of our Plant Industries division, you will play a critical role in safeguarding the public, plants, animals, and the environment through promotion, education, and regulation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct watercraft inspections and decontaminations at high-use recreation areas in Idaho to prevent the spread of zebra/quagga mussels and other Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS) from infested states.
  • Use an established protocol to inspect watercraft and conduct hotwashes on high-risk conveyances.
  • Conduct quality control activities at watercraft inspection stations.
  • Set up and take down portable traffic signs on a daily basis.
  • Properly enter detailed watercraft data on an electronic inspection form.
  • Conduct "clean, drain, dry" public education and outreach.
  • Attend outreach events promoting the clean, drain, dry message.
  • Perform early detection plankton tow sampling.
Requirements
  • Good communication skills.
  • Ability to pay attention to detail when conducting watercraft inspections.
  • Work in various types of weather conditions (heat, cold, wind, rain, etc.).
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs. with or without a reasonable accommodation.
  • Ability to bend and crawl underneath watercraft, when necessary and with or without a reasonable accommodation.
  • Possibility of working evenings, weekends, or long hours.
  • State vehicle usage.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Must be 18 years old or older.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Aquatic biology, ecology, or field inspection experience.
  • Experience with pressure washers.
  • Ability to operate independently with minimal supervision in remote areas.
  • Experience working with and towing trailers.
