Job Overview


As a Strategic Category Leader, you will be responsible for crafting and implementing comprehensive sourcing strategies for Direct Material, focusing on Truck Upfit Equipment and other designated items. Your role will emphasize leveraging synergies across the organization and promoting a unified supply chain approach.


Your primary goal will be to ensure timely and cost-effective procurement of high-quality products while maintaining an optimal balance between acquisition costs and possession costs to enhance return on investment.


Key Responsibilities:
Supplier Strategy Development

Formulate strategic initiatives within assigned commodities to drive cross-business synergies, utilizing both domestic and international suppliers.

Oversee supplier sourcing, assessment, selection, negotiation, performance evaluation, relationship management, and ongoing improvement efforts.

Collaborate closely with Business Unit Purchasing leaders, Finance, Engineering, and Sales & Marketing teams to create and sustain technology and category strategies.

Establish and nurture robust global supplier relationships, including conducting supplier site visits and engaging with stakeholders at all organizational levels.

Monitor and report on supplier strategies, tracking expenditures, business allocations, capability gap analyses, and facilitating cross-functional reviews.

Devise risk mitigation strategies within the supply chain, applicable to both overall operations and specific new product initiatives.

Conduct benchmarking studies, market analyses, and implement best practices throughout the organization.

Negotiate purchases and long-term agreements for components and raw materials.

Lead regular strategic supplier business reviews to ensure alignment and performance.


Process Management

Support category analysis (both internal and external) to enhance Strategic Sourcing processes.

Manage sourcing activities and negotiations, oversee the implementation of agreements, and integrate key suppliers while monitoring performance and managing contracts for assigned commodities.

Contribute to the development and refinement of processes, systems, and reporting capabilities to enhance efficiency in regional procurement services.

Drive process improvements and leverage technology to reduce costs, identify best practices, and measure performance effectively.

Provide guidance and prioritization to re-engineering team initiatives.

Identify competitive benchmarks and implement necessary process changes to achieve top-tier performance.

Champion Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) reduction initiatives to realize associated benefits.

Assist in enhancing systems and operational workflows.


Supplier Performance Improvement

Generate and present supplier performance metrics, managing corrective actions and continuous improvement initiatives, including Value Analysis/Value Engineering (VA-VE) and lead time reduction programs.

Conduct root cause analysis for supplier-related issues, ensuring the integrity of corrective measures.

Organize and execute regular evaluations and audits of supplier sites to maintain high standards of performance.
