Role Summary

The Lead Policy Advisor will play a critical role in shaping Rivian's policy strategy related to battery regulatory requirements, materials management, and stakeholder coordination. This position will report to the Senior Director of Public Policy and will be responsible for developing and implementing policies that drive business growth and sustainability.

Key Responsibilities
  • Meet with legislators, regulators, NGOs, and industry coalitions to address sourcing, trade, and other related battery concerns.
  • Support internal and external coalition and team building to develop and implement battery-related policies.
  • Represent Rivian at trade associations, public workshops, and other industry policy events.
  • Provide input to the Product Strategy, Sourcing, Compliance, and Legal Teams regarding the state of the battery industry and developing risks.
  • Directly responsible for related battery regulatory development and ensure developing requirements are communicated internally and that Rivian's goals are advocated in public processes.
  • Develop and publicize bipartisan messaging, talking points, and supporting evidence on key policy issues that will be persuasive to lawmakers, regulators, and the general public.
  • Work with Communications and Leadership to manage battery policy communications while ensuring that the company's perspective on federal and state battery policy issues are captured across media platforms.
  • Liaise with subject-matter experts to understand our technology and products in order to create clear and engaging messages.
  • Support executives and cross-functional teams to manage crisis communications.
  • Organize and present results to executive staff and internal stakeholders.
  • Support State and Federal policy efforts by covering hearings and related political/industry events plus assisting with Rivian lobbying efforts as needed.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree, Graduate degree preferred.
  • Understanding of electric vehicle battery chemistry, state of the industry, and emergent policy issues.
  • 10 to 15 years of experience in building industry coalitions and developing policy platforms.
  • Ability to distill complex policy and technical issues into clear, straightforward language that is understandable and persuasive to a range of audiences.
  • Basic understanding of the current regulatory and legislative landscape including how the US, California, and EU regulatory processes work.
  • Attention to detail and excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams for innovative energy, automotive, technology companies or trade associations.
  • Strong organization skills and the ability to lead multiple projects in a dynamic environment.
