About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Design Director to lead our Mens Fashion team at Gap Inc. This is a unique opportunity to partner with cross-functional teams to drive the global design direction for our Woven Tops, Bottoms, Outerwear, and Sleep product lines.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead Design Team: Manage and direct a creative design team to set the overall global design direction for the product line, providing creative direction, coaching, and developing a motivated, high-performing team.
  • Market Research: Conduct research on global markets to identify new seasonal trends, silhouettes, fabrics, techniques, product categories, and competitive inspiration.
  • Design Vision: Develop an overall design vision and concept for the product area, advocating and presenting strategies to internal leadership and cross-functional partners.
  • Collaboration: Partner with Merchandising, Production, Technical Design, Gap Inc. Sourcing (GIS), Visual Merchandising, and Marketing to ensure product concept to store and site execution is a seamless customer experience.
  • Technical Design: Collaborate with Production and Technical Design to create tech packs and communicate the vision behind fit and product design, ensuring execution, quality, and desired margin targets are achieved.
  • Design Initiatives: Lead and collaborate with others on key design initiatives and their implementation.
  • Strategic Direction: Set policies and strategic direction for the design team, planning, budgeting, and ensuring end results.
Requirements
  • Leadership: Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic, and highly collaborative environment, with the ability to juggle multiple seasons at one time and track development deadlines.
  • Team Management: Ability to lead, influence, and develop a high-performing team of designers.
  • Style and Aesthetic: Possess an elevated sense of style, aesthetic, and color, and understand how to translate trends through the lens of the customer and brand filter.
  • Technical Skills: Strong computer knowledge, including Adobe Illustrator and Microsoft Excel.
  • Analytical Skills: Ability to filter, prioritize, analyze, and validate complex in-depth understanding of concepts and procedures throughout the product creation process related to garment construction, hand sketching, and fabric.
