Job Overview

The Community Engagement Pastor at The City of Refuge Church Inc. is responsible for cultivating teams and pathways that guide individuals from their initial visit to becoming fully integrated members of our church community. This role is vital to fostering genuine and supportive relationships within our leadership team. A key aspect of this position involves providing pastoral care through prayer, hospital visits, and home visits to meet the needs of our members. This is a part-time role, and compensation will be based on experience.

Key Responsibilities

The Community Engagement Pastor enhances relationships among our members and visitors by:

  • Creating teams and pathways that effectively transition guests into friends and ultimately family members (strategies may include Bible studies, small groups, retreats, conferences, hospitality initiatives, ushering, greeting, and special events).
  • Formulating strategies to ensure our members are fully engaged in church life (encouraging all to be involved, invested, and inviting).
  • Collaborating with Directors to ensure that verbal announcements during services are prioritized and communicated effectively.
  • Partnering with the Senior Pastor and Elders to manage the annual membership renewal process.

The Community Engagement Pastor oversees the care of our expanding community by:

  • Working alongside the Senior Pastor to provide oversight for prayer ministries (including altar ministry and prayer requests).
  • Establishing teams and strategies to celebrate and care for our church family.
  • Guiding individuals and families through significant life events such as weddings, funerals, hospitalizations, crises, professions of faith, baptisms, and dedications.
  • Implementing measures to ensure the physical, emotional, and spiritual safety of our church family while under our care.

Communication and Administration

To ensure effective communication and administration, the Community Engagement Pastor will:

  • Respond promptly, professionally, and warmly to requests for information (including connection cards, phone calls, and general inquiries).
  • Maintain well-stocked, organized, and responsibly managed Community Engagement resources.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant laws and policies.
  • Develop and manage departmental budgets.

Qualifications

  • Professes Jesus Christ as their personal Savior and Lord.
  • Utilizes the Bible as their standard for belief and conduct.
  • Exhibits a mature faith and strives for a God-honoring lifestyle.
  • Demonstrates humility while being confident and open to coaching.
  • Is an ordained and licensed pastor (or is willing to pursue ordination through The City of Refuge Church Inc.).
  • Can support the Senior Pastor by providing leadership to the entire staff and congregation in the Senior Pastor's absence.
  • Possesses a proven ability to build exceptional teams.
  • Has extensive experience in community-building among both staff and congregants.
  • Exhibits a pastoral heart, is an attentive listener, and consistently encourages reconciliation.
  • Possesses strong counseling skills and a list of exceptional referrals.
  • Demonstrates outstanding interpersonal skills.
  • Exhibits excellent communication skills (both verbal and written).
  • Is a great listener and welcomes feedback.
  • Is committed to lifelong learning and has a deep desire for ongoing growth and development.
  • Embraces the beliefs, vision, and values of The City of Refuge Church Inc.

Preferred Experience

At least five years of full-time experience as an Associate Pastor is preferred.
