Job Summary

Tlingit Haida Tribal Business Corporation (THTBC) is seeking a skilled Grounds Maintenance Laborer to join our team at Fort Carson, Colorado Springs, CO. As a Grounds Maintenance Laborer, you will be responsible for performing various labor tasks to maintain the property, including cutting grass, trimming hedges, and repairing fences.

Responsibilities
  • Cut grass using walking-type or riding mowers (less than 2000 lbs.)
  • Utilize weed eater to cut grass or weeds in ditches, ammunition mounds, and berms with high inclines
  • Trim hedges and edges around walks, flowerbeds, and wells using hedge trimmers, clippers, and edging tools
  • Prune shrubs and trees to shape and improve growth using shears and other hand tools
  • Spray lawn, shrubs, and trees with fertilizer or insecticide
  • Plant grass, flowers, trees, and shrubs
  • Water lawn and shrubs during dry periods using hose or activating sprinkler system
  • Rake, bag, and remove leaves and other natural debris
  • Remove snow from walks, driveways, roads, or parking lots using shovel and snow blower
  • Spread salt on walkways and other areas
  • Repair and paint fences, gates, benches, tables, guardrails, and outbuildings
  • Assist in repair of roads, walks, buildings, and mechanical equipment, and may clean comfort stations, offices, workshop areas, and parking lots by sweeping, washing, mopping, and polishing
  • Tie down equipment and cargo loads on stake bed trucks and flatbed trailers
  • Hand weed-pulling, raking, shoveling, and mulching landscapes
  • May drive ATVs, Kubotas, and other small equipment or tractors
  • Use hand and arm signals to direct other operators
  • Consistently produce quality products and service
  • Complete all training within required timeline
  • Perform all work in a safe and secure manner
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
  • Experience and/or training providing the necessary knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the tasks of the position
  • Experience in operating small trucks and grounds equipment
  • Must be able to successfully complete a National Agency Check with Inquiries (Tier 1) background check
  • Must possess the ability to work in a high-volume office area and interface in a positive manner with co-workers and the customer
  • Must possess the ability to work in a team or alone and be able to change jobs on short notice
  • Performs all assigned duties in accordance with established policies, procedures, and directives
  • Displays courtesy and skill in dealing with internal and external customers, coworkers, and management
  • Accurately maintains and updates records to enable quick and efficient retrieval of information
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to speak, read, and write English
  • Must possess the ability to interact well with others in a team setting ability or alone and be able to change jobs on short notice
  • Must be capable of working under tight time constraints in a high-volume environment with multiple priorities
  • Highly motivated, flexible, organized, and must be detail-oriented
  • Strong customer service and interpersonal skills
  • Must be able to maintain ability to access government worksite
  • Must have practical knowledge of worksite safety, occupational hazards, and standard safety practices
  • Must be able to perform duties under adverse weather conditions (extreme cold/heat, etc.)
  • Duties will require frequent periods of sitting, standing, kneeling, walking, crouching, bending, crawling, reaching, and balancing
  • Physically fit to frequently bend, stoop, and lift in awkward positions and able to lift and carry up to 60 lbs
  • Must be able to work alternate and extended shift schedules when necessary to meet the customer's mission requirements, including weekends and holidays
  • Must have and maintain a valid state driver's license to operate a company vehicle
  • Must have a safe driving record, as defined by Company policy, to operate a company vehicle
  • Must be able to successfully complete a drug/alcohol test and a criminal record check
