Key Responsibilities

General Accounting Responsibilities:

  • Manage the daily functions of the accounting division, including supervising accounting personnel and ensuring the precise and timely reporting of financial data.
  • Prepare necessary journal entries to finalize financial statements and other relevant reports.
  • Reconcile significant balance sheet accounts and maintain supporting documentation, ensuring compliance with company policies.
  • Oversee the preparation and examination of annual audit materials and related documentation.
  • Design and implement effective accounting processes and procedures to enhance operational efficiency.
  • Perform additional tasks as needed.

Financial Reporting Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and review both consolidated and non-consolidated financial statements, ensuring adherence to accounting standards and internal protocols for corporate entities.
  • Analyze working papers for corporate entities, ensuring timely and relevant financial information for informed decision-making.
  • Supervise the preparation of working papers and documentation for the external audit process.
  • Manage the preparation, submission, and reconciliation of commodity tax filings (GST/HST/PST) and other tax-related issues.
  • Collaborate with external auditors during audits to ensure a seamless and efficient process.
  • Ensure that robust internal controls over financial reporting are established and functioning effectively.
  • Evaluate accounting systems for inaccuracies and potential enhancements, recommending and implementing improvements as necessary.
  • Work closely with senior management and department leaders to assess financial health, identify cost-saving opportunities, and implement efficiency enhancements.
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of all financial and accounting regulations, ensuring compliance across the organization.

Leadership and Team Development:

  • Supervise, mentor, and develop the accounting team, providing training and performance evaluations to ensure high accuracy and efficiency within the department.
  • Establish objectives and goals for the accounting team, ensuring alignment with organizational aims and providing guidance on achieving these targets.
  • Promote a collaborative and supportive team culture, encouraging continuous learning and professional growth.
  • Coordinate with other departments to ensure the accuracy and timeliness of financial data and support cross-functional initiatives.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline is preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience in accounts payable and receivable roles, with a solid grasp of accounting principles.
  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, SAP, Oracle) and Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent organizational and time management capabilities.
  • Ability to manage confidential information with integrity and professionalism.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
