Nautilus Homes is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Project Accountant to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing the financial aspects of our construction projects, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and efficiency.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Financial Management: Manage project budgets, forecasts, and financial reports to ensure accurate and timely financial information.
  • Cost Control: Monitor and control project costs, identifying and addressing variances to ensure projects are completed within budget.
  • Accounting and Billing: Prepare and review project billing, ensuring accuracy and timely invoicing to clients.
  • Account Reconciliation: Reconcile project accounts and resolve discrepancies to ensure financial accuracy.
  • Project Setup: Create project accounts in the accounting system and maintain project-related records, including contracts and change orders.
  • Access Control: Authorize access to project accounts and the transfer of expenses into and out of project-related accounts.
  • Supplier Invoicing: Review and approve supplier invoices, time sheets, and overhead charges related to projects.
  • Financial Analysis: Review account totals related to project assets and expenses, and investigate project variances and submit variance reports to management.
  • Customer Communication: Confer with receivables staff regarding unpaid contract billings and report on project profitability and any opportunities for additional billings to management.
  • Project Closure: Close out project accounts upon project completion and create and submit government reports and tax returns related to projects.
  • Internal and External Audits: Compile information for internal and external auditors, as required.
  • Collaboration: Collaborate with project managers to develop and maintain project schedules and budgets, and ensure compliance with company policies, contractual obligations, and regulatory requirements.
  • Financial Reporting: Provide financial analysis and reporting to support decision-making, and assist in the preparation of financial statements and audits.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate and organized project documentation and records.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • Proficiency in Sage 100 Contractor accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • In-depth experience and proficiency in Procore Financials.
  • CPA or CMA certification preferred.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in construction accounting or project accounting.
  • Strong understanding of construction project accounting principles.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
