Job Overview

El Museo del Barrio, a leading cultural institution in the Latino and Latin American community, is seeking a highly skilled Development Executive Director to spearhead its fundraising efforts. This role plays a critical part in shaping and executing the museum's comprehensive and strategic fundraising program to support its mission and strategic priorities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conceptualize, organize, and implement a robust development strategy in alignment with El Museo's mission and objectives.
  • Serve as a key member of the senior management team, collaborating closely with the Executive Director, Deputy Executive Director, and other department heads to build a culture of philanthropy throughout the organization.
  • Leverage recent significant investments, including $9 million from the city for capital improvements, to drive major capital campaigns.
  • Supervise a two-person team, recruit, evaluate, and mentor staff members to ensure a fully staffed department aligned with El Museo's needs.
Scope and Purpose

The Development Executive Director will play a pivotal role in addressing institutional challenges, opportunities, and priorities, serving as a thought partner to the Executive Director. This position includes examining and evolving all dimensions of the Development program, ensuring a strong foundation for growth and success.

Qualifications and Requirements
  • Eight or more years of progressively responsible development leadership experience, preferably in a complex cultural, academic, or nonprofit organization.
  • Proven track record of successful fundraising, with expertise in individual giving, institutional giving, major gifts, annual fund/membership, planned giving, stewardship, development operations, and leadership in major fundraising campaigns.
  • Demonstrated commitment to building diversity, equity, and inclusion in the development function, with cultural competence and experience delivering solutions in evolving, multicultural environments.
  • Ability to provide inspirational leadership, recruit, evaluate, and mentor a diverse, multi-functional team, and contribute to a high-performing, results-oriented workforce.
Estimated Salary

$180,000 per annum, reflecting the significance of this role in driving El Museo's fundraising efforts and supporting its mission to promote Latino and Latin American arts and cultural heritage.
