Construction Project Engineer

The role of the Project Engineer involves supporting the Vice President of Developer/Utility Operations and Project Managers in effectively overseeing Solar, Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), and Microgrid Projects. This position plays a crucial part in the initial stages of project development and ensures adherence to quality standards, organization, scheduling, and execution. Travel will be a requirement for this position.

Under the guidance of Project Managers, the Project Engineer will ensure that project timelines and submissions are accurately documented, organized, and communicated. Responsibilities also include procuring materials for projects and coordinating delivery logistics with site Superintendents. The Project Engineer will actively contribute to VEP's safety programs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in managing construction projects for the deployment of Photovoltaic systems, Battery Energy Storage Systems, Microgrid solutions, and other Distributed/Onsite Energy Systems.
  • Help in sourcing materials for projects and executing purchase orders.
  • Coordinate logistics for materials and equipment with the project superintendent.
  • Ensure labor productivity meets or exceeds expectations.
  • Gather Quotes/Bids/Estimates for all materials and labor for Project Managers' review.
  • Identify and evaluate subcontractors and vendors for designated scopes of work.
  • Maintain communication to ensure subcontractor and vendor compliance with contractual obligations.
  • Collaborate with Engineering and Estimating teams to provide feedback on estimates, costs, and best practices.
  • Participate in design review sessions.
  • Support Project Managers in overseeing Project Superintendents to guarantee a safe and high-quality project.
  • Maintain daily documentation, including field reports, schedule updates, and correspondence.
  • Organize all project documents in the designated folders on shared drives.
  • Assist in updating project schedules and detailed cost reports for monthly leadership review meetings.
  • Actively engage in VEP's safety initiatives.
  • Contribute to the preparation of project close-out documentation, including cost history, operation and maintenance manuals, punch-list management, and inspections.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field with relevant experience.
  • 1-3 years of experience in the construction industry is preferred.
  • An electrical background is advantageous.
  • Ability to manage essential job responsibilities and meet deadlines effectively.
  • Proficient in maintaining onsite project documentation.
  • Skilled in scheduling and coordinating site activities.
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented.
  • Able to multitask and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Capable of interpreting drawings and specifications.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to ensure high standards in all communications.
  • Motivated, driven, and results-oriented, thriving in a dynamic work environment.
  • Familiarity with Racking systems, Panels, Inverters, DC wiring, AC wiring, Interconnection, DAS, Battery systems, Generators, Turbines, ATS, Switchgear, NEC, and Rapid Shutdown systems is beneficial.
