Construction Project Engineer

The role of the Project Engineer involves supporting the Vice President of Developer/Utility Operations and Project Managers in effectively overseeing Solar, Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), and Microgrid initiatives. This position plays a crucial part in the initial planning stages of construction projects, ensuring adherence to quality standards, organization, scheduling, and execution. Travel will be a requirement for this position.

Under the guidance of Project Managers, the Project Engineer will assist in maintaining accurate project schedules and documentation. Responsibilities include procuring materials for projects and coordinating delivery logistics with Superintendents. The Project Engineer will also actively participate in the safety programs at Vanguard Energy Partners.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in managing construction projects focused on the installation of Photovoltaic systems, Battery Energy Storage Systems, Microgrid solutions, and other Distributed/Onsite Energy Systems.
  • Help with material procurement and the placement of purchase orders.
  • Coordinate logistics for materials and equipment with project superintendents.
  • Ensure labor productivity meets or exceeds expectations.
  • Gather Quotes/Bids/Estimates for materials and labor for Project Managers' approval.
  • Identify and evaluate subcontractors and vendors for specific scopes of work.
  • Maintain communication to ensure subcontractor and vendor compliance with contractual obligations.
  • Collaborate with Engineering and Estimating teams to provide feedback on estimates, costs, and best practices.
  • Engage in design review meetings.
  • Support Project Managers in overseeing Project Superintendents to guarantee a safe and high-quality project.
  • Maintain daily documentation, including field reports, schedule updates, and correspondence.
  • Organize all project documents in designated folders on shared drives.
  • Assist in updating project schedules and detailed cost reports for monthly leadership review meetings.
  • Actively participate in Vanguard Energy Partners' safety initiatives.
  • Contribute to the preparation of project close-out documentation, including cost history, operation and maintenance manuals, punch-list management, and inspections.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 1-3 years of experience in the construction industry is preferred.
  • An electrical background is advantageous.
  • Ability to manage essential job functions and meet deadlines effectively.
  • Proficient in maintaining on-site project documentation.
  • Skilled in scheduling and coordinating site activities.
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented.
  • Capable of multitasking and managing multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to interpret and understand technical drawings and specifications.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in interacting with individuals at all levels, ensuring high standards of communication.
  • Motivated, results-driven, and able to thrive in a dynamic work environment.
  • Basic knowledge of racking systems, panels, inverters, wiring, interconnections, and related technologies is beneficial.
