Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled Government Relations Specialist II to join our team at the Department of State Health Services. As a key member of our Government Affairs team, you will provide advanced legislative and technical consultative services to our leadership and staff. Your expertise will be instrumental in analyzing state legislative issues and actions concerning public health, facilitating written and verbal communications between our agency and state leadership, and coordinating responses to inquiries regarding policy.

Key Responsibilities:
Develop and implement effective communication strategies on public health issues for a legislative audience. Work closely with programmatic experts and senior staff to craft various documents, including reports, presentations, talking points, briefing documents, memorandums, and letters. Track implementation of legislation impacting DSHS and work with staff to develop bill implementation plans. Monitor legislative issues and the status of legislation impacting DSHS, attending legislative hearings and meetings, and developing summaries for executive and senior staff. Coordinate responses to inquiries from legislators regarding DSHS programs, preparing verbal and written responses using information gathered across various parts of the agency. Provide input in the development and policy analysis of public health issues, completing special projects as assigned. Represent the Director and/or agency at internal, external, legislative, and non-legislative meetings, providing guidance to advisory boards and committees associated with DSHS.

Requirements:
Experience in policy, public relations, public information, communications, or state government work. Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in policy, government, public relations, communications, or a related field. A master's level degree in a relevant field is preferred. Experience and education may be substituted for one another.
