POSITION SUMMARY
The Oncology Clinic RN is dedicated to delivering exceptional care and support to patients within a multidisciplinary outpatient environment. This role emphasizes patient advocacy, education, and seamless care coordination throughout the treatment journey.
PRIMARY ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Facilitate collaboration among the multidisciplinary team, including physicians and advanced practice nurses, to ensure patients receive comprehensive and integrated services tailored to their specific conditions.
- Monitor and track the completion of patient orders, ensuring adherence to treatment plans and assisting with referrals to external resources as necessary.
- Act as the primary contact for oncology patients, coordinating communication with medical and nursing staff.
- Provide educational resources to patients, families, and caregivers through various communication methods.
- Exhibit proficiency in managing delegated orders and data entry within oncology electronic medical records (EMR).
- Offer patient support and perform phone triage for oncology-related inquiries.
- Administer chemotherapy according to established guidelines, coordinating complex treatment regimens with infusion and pharmacy teams.
- Promote effective teamwork through clear communication with healthcare colleagues.
- Assist with daily phone triage for oncology patients.
- Maintain clinical skills relevant to assigned clinic responsibilities.
- Comply with medication management protocols and clinical procedures.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Education: Associate degree (ASN, ADN, or AAS) from an accredited nursing program.
- Work Experience: 1–3 years in an oncology clinic setting.
- Licensure: Active RN license in the State of Florida.
- Certification: BLS certification from the American Heart Association.
- Chemotherapy/Biotherapy Fundamentals of Administration Course completion through the Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) within six months of hire or transfer if not previously obtained.
- Skills/Knowledge/Abilities: Background in oncology nursing within a clinical environment.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree (BSN) from an accredited nursing program preferred.
- Work Experience: 1–3 years in an oncology clinic setting.
- Licensure: N/A
- Certification: Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN) through the Oncology Nursing Certification Corporation (ONCC) preferred.
- Skills/Knowledge/Abilities: Experience in oncology infusion preferred.
- Ability to perform physical activities such as walking, standing, bending, and lifting.
- May require lifting or moving objects up to 50 pounds occasionally.
- Ability to maneuver in various environments, including confined spaces.
- May involve moving patients and/or equipment with or without assistance.
- Exposure to diverse environmental conditions, including temperature variations and noise levels.
- Potential exposure to biohazards, adhering to OSHA and CDC guidelines.
- Effective communication skills for information exchange.
- Visual acuity and hand-eye coordination necessary for task performance.
- Work environment may vary from open to confined spaces, on-site or remote.
- Travel to various facilities may be required.
