Key Responsibilities:

The Transportation Technician is tasked with executing intricate technical assignments related to field surveying and construction layout. Responsibilities include:

  • Documenting daily contractor activities
  • Preparing project field books and logs
  • Conducting material sampling and testing
  • Assisting in the preparation of final estimates
  • Measuring distances to ensure accuracy in construction
  • Verifying levels, alignment, and elevation of installations
  • Monitoring ongoing work to ensure compliance with specifications
  • Preparing material samples for laboratory analysis
  • Evaluating workmanship of completed installations
  • Maintaining a daily log of construction and inspection activities

Qualifications:

Candidates should possess a high school diploma with a minimum of four years of experience in construction inspection, including at least one year in roadway or bridge construction inspection. Alternatively, an AAS in Civil Engineering Technology with two years of relevant experience is acceptable.

A valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving history is required. Candidates must also complete the Critical Structures Construction Issues self-study course.

Certifications:

A full complement of certifications is required, including:

  • QMS Roadway
  • Concrete
  • ABC Sampling
  • Borrow Pit Sampling
  • QMS Density
  • ABC Density
  • Conventional Density
  • EC Level 2
  • DOT Intermediate MOT

Skills and Abilities:

Successful candidates will demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment, exercise initiative, and make independent judgments to resolve work-related challenges. They will assist senior inspectors and project administrators throughout all phases of construction projects, ensuring thorough documentation for progress and final estimates.
