POSITION SUMMARY:


The role involves performing comprehensive cleaning and maintenance services within various University facilities, including but not limited to residence halls, healthcare settings, and academic buildings.


SUPERVISION AND DIRECTION EXERCISED:
No supervisory responsibilities.

MACHINES AND EQUIPMENT USED:


Utilizes a range of commercial-grade and lightweight maintenance tools and equipment, including automatic floor scrubbers, strippers, waxers, buffers, polishers, wall washing devices, carpet shampooers, vacuum cleaners, as well as traditional cleaning tools like mops, dusters, and trash collection vehicles.


TYPICAL DUTIES:
Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Operating various housekeeping and floor maintenance machines to strip, wax, and polish floors. Engaging in mopping, sweeping, and dusting activities.
  • Executing cleaning and sanitizing tasks, including fogging rooms and scrubbing floors, walls, furniture, and fixtures with disinfectant solutions.
  • Cleaning walls, ceilings, and staircases; maintaining overhead fixtures such as vents and lights; vacuuming carpets, upholstery, and drapes; dusting and polishing furniture; changing linens and making beds.
  • Removing, washing, and re-hanging window treatments and blinds; cleaning windows both inside and out.
  • Emptying waste receptacles into collection containers; gathering litter from designated areas; loading waste into larger disposal vehicles.
  • Sanitizing large trash bins and waste containers, as well as cleaning surfaces like blackboards and doors. Maintaining cleanliness in kitchens and dining spaces.
  • Performing various custodial tasks such as relocating furniture, tightening hardware, cleaning elevator tracks, changing light bulbs, and snow removal.
  • Ensuring the cleanliness and organization of storage areas and equipment; undertaking additional duties as assigned that require similar skills and responsibilities.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Must possess the ability to comprehend and execute verbal instructions. The role requires continuous standing, walking, bending, and reaching. Ability to handle heavy and medium-weight materials, tools, and supplies is essential.

Exposure to refuse, dirt, dust, cleaning agents, and odors is expected both indoors and outdoors; occasional contact with infectious materials may occur.
