Job Overview

Salary: $35.73 per hour DOE

Position Summary: Responsible for maintaining financial records for a designated department; processes financial and technical transactions, verifies documentation, and generates summary and status reports.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Department Director by managing financial transactions and maintaining accounts; apply knowledge of County policies and governmental accounting practices to perform accounting and technical support tasks, review financial data, process transactions, reconcile discrepancies, and assist with payroll and financial reporting.
  • Clarify accounting rules, policies, and procedures; execute duties within the scope of authority and training, ensuring compliance with County policies and quality standards.
  • Demonstrate initiative in performing accounting tasks and resolving issues; monitor accounts, contracts, and budgets; develop accounting documents and reports.
  • Utilize judgment and knowledge of departmental operations to address straightforward problems and make decisions regarding work processes; escalate matters requiring policy interpretation to the supervisor.
  • Maintain and reconcile general ledger and bank accounts; oversee bank deposit processes in line with basic audit standards. Manage revenue receipts, purchasing, billing, and accounts receivable.
  • Assist County personnel in resolving various technical issues. Address customer service concerns with other County departments and external government agencies.
  • Complete and coordinate special projects, program assignments, audit support, and research tasks.
  • Foster positive relationships between Teton County staff and the public by exhibiting courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with visitors and colleagues; maintain confidentiality regarding work-related matters and County information; perform additional duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education and Experience:

  • Associate's Degree in Business or Public Administration, or a related field.
  • 1-3 years of experience in government accounting and computer applications.
  • Alternatively, an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Required Licenses and Certifications:

  • Must possess or have the ability to obtain a valid Wyoming/Idaho Driver's License and maintain an acceptable driving record.
  • Specific technical skills training and certifications may be necessary for some positions.

Required Knowledge:

  • Familiarity with County policies and procedures, as well as relevant federal and state laws, regulations, and procedures.
  • Understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles applicable to public sector accounting, payroll, and records management.
  • Knowledge of customer service principles, protocols, and standards.
  • Proficiency in standard and specialized computer software applications.

Required Skills:

  • Ability to perform various accounting functions using knowledge of government accounting procedures.
  • Skill in interpreting and explaining County policies and accounting standards.
  • Competence in preparing, reviewing, and monitoring accounting documents for accuracy and completeness.
  • Capability to meet deadlines and strict timelines for processing technical documents and reports.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
