VCA Animal Hospitals is seeking a skilled Registered Veterinary Technician to oversee the Surgery and Anesthesia Department.

Qualifications:

  • Registered (or eligible) Veterinary Technician in California.
  • Experience with companion animal anesthesia (dogs and cats), diagnostic imaging, surgical procedures, and post-operative care.
  • Strong communication skills to effectively engage with colleagues, specialists, clients, and patients.
  • A willingness to learn new techniques and adapt to changing situations.

Work Schedule: Full-time, Monday through Thursday, 4/10 hour shifts.

Compensation: Starting at $38-$43 per hour, based on licensure and experience.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct pre-operative anesthesia assessments and planning.
  • Calculate and administer pre-induction medications and monitor anesthesia levels.
  • Intubate patients and maintain appropriate sedation or anesthesia levels.
  • Perform venous catheterization and assist with patient instrumentation.
  • Learn and apply arterial catheterization techniques as needed.
  • Utilize mechanical ventilators and ensure proper functioning.
  • Administer locoregional anesthesia techniques safely.
  • Monitor physiological parameters and communicate any abnormalities to the supervising veterinarian.
  • Conduct recovery procedures and assess post-operative pain.
  • Participate in basic and advanced life support during emergencies.
  • Maintain cleanliness and safety standards in the surgical environment.
  • Manage client invoicing and maintain accurate medical records.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols and manage waste appropriately.
