About DMC University Laboratories

DMC University Laboratories (DMCUL) is a comprehensive laboratory system serving the eight hospitals within the Detroit Medical Center. Established in 1993, our network includes Core Laboratories, Specialty Laboratories, and multiple rapid response hospital laboratories. We pride ourselves on our extensive test menu, which features over 1,000 tests, including advanced specialty tests, with less than 1% of our tests sent to external reference laboratories.

Role Summary

As a Clinical Laboratory Technologist, you will operate under general supervision to conduct both quantitative and qualitative laboratory tests on patient specimens in accordance with established laboratory protocols.

  • Evaluate test results and prepare samples for analysis.
  • Document findings and maintain accurate records.
  • Prepare and validate solutions, reagents, and various materials used in testing.

Your responsibilities will also include processing and testing diverse laboratory specimens, reviewing and reporting results, performing maintenance and troubleshooting on laboratory equipment, and serving as a resource for fellow laboratory staff.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution or completion of an accredited medical technology program, or equivalent military training.
  • Preferred experience of 6 months to 1 year in a clinical laboratory setting within an acute care environment.
  • Must be registered or registry-eligible with a recognized certifying agency (ASCP, NCA, AMT, or CSMLS) within 12 months of hire.
