Corewell Health encompasses multiple hospitals and outpatient facilities, offering varied practice environments throughout southeastern Michigan and the greater Detroit area.
This role is a full-time midnight shift position at the Wayne Campus.
Key Responsibilities:Under general supervision, you will conduct and report on routine or specialized clinical laboratory tests and procedures across various laboratory sections.
Your duties will include performing specific chemical, hematologic, microscopic, morphologic, immunologic, and microbiologic procedures, utilizing both manual techniques and advanced laboratory instruments.
Utilizing your training and clinical expertise, you will assess instrument performance and quality control outcomes to ensure the precision and dependability of analytical data prior to release. You will identify and escalate any implausible results or unique circumstances to the medical technologist or supervisor.
Responsibilities also include standardizing, calibrating, operating, and conducting preventive maintenance on select laboratory equipment within established guidelines. You will assist in data collection for the evaluation and introduction of new instruments or procedures.
Additionally, you will participate in the training of students, residents, and new staff in performing routine procedures. Engagement in quality assurance and regulatory activities, including data collection for quality monitors and CAP surveys, will also be part of your role.
Additional Duties:In this position, you will also contribute to staff activities within a High Reliability Organization (HRO), assist in training new hires, and participate in staff and committee meetings as assigned. You will be expected to manage laboratory funds responsibly and perform various miscellaneous tasks, including inventory control and specimen processing.
Qualifications:Education: A bachelor's degree from an accredited institution with a minimum of 16 semester hours in biology (including microbiology) and 16 semester hours in chemistry (including organic or biochemistry) is required. Completion of a clinical laboratory program accredited by NAACLS or equivalent documented laboratory training is also necessary.
Experience: Completion of a NAACLS accredited clinical internship or equivalent experience is required, as mandated by relevant certification boards.
Certifications: Certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) or Medical Technologist (MT) is required, in accordance with department policy.
