Chief Psychiatrist for Acute Care Services

The Acute Psychiatric Services (APS) division at Hennepin Healthcare is in search of a dedicated professional for a full-time (1.0 FTE) role focused on delivering clinical care within APS while also taking on the responsibilities of the service medical director. Our APS is committed to providing emergency mental health services around the clock to individuals facing mental health crises. The treatment team comprises Psychiatrists, Advanced Practice Providers, Psychiatric Nurses, Mental Health Workers, and Psychiatric Social Workers.

The Medical Director is responsible for offering medical guidance to a diverse team of clinical professionals, in addition to delivering direct patient care. This position acts as a key liaison and clinical advisor to both medical and nursing personnel. The Medical Director collaborates closely with the administrative chair of psychiatry, service line director, managers, supervisors, clinical staff, and fellow medical directors on matters impacting clinical operations. Furthermore, the director works in partnership with Hennepin Healthcare on strategic initiatives, growth, marketing, and research & development. Key Responsibilities:

  • Assessing and treating individuals with mental, emotional, and behavioral disorders
  • Identifying the nature and extent of mental disorders, and developing a treatment plan that employs various psychotherapeutic techniques and medications
  • Providing direct care to patients whose primary diagnosis is mental health-related, as well as those experiencing secondary mental health issues
  • Collaborating with, educating, and guiding other healthcare providers on the physical health factors that may influence their patients' mental health

Qualifications:

Essential Qualifications:

  • MD or an equivalent international degree
  • Completion of a residency program in Psychiatry
  • Board certified or Board Eligible in Psychiatry
    • If Board Eligible, certification must be obtained within 4 years of the employment start date
  • Current medical license to practice in the State of Minnesota (or eligibility)
