Responsibilities

The Patient Care Specialist provides direct and indirect patient care under the supervision of the Registered Nurse (RN) and accepts delegation from care team members. This includes:

  • Providing care and collecting and documenting patient care data
  • Communicating information to patients, families, and care team members
  • Maintaining the environment of care and performing unit-based clerical duties

The Patient Care Specialist demonstrates strong organizational skills, teamwork, and a commitment to continuous learning, quality, and excellence. Utilization of multiple computer applications is required.

Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you must:

  • Be 18 years of age prior to start date
  • Have basic computer skills and experience with other technological devices
  • Be able to read and communicate effectively in English
  • Be able to work irregular hours, including days, evenings, holidays, and weekends
  • Be self-motivated and independent
  • Be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, employees, and the public

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Previous experience as a Patient Care Specialist, Healthcare Support Professional, or Medical Assistant
  • Demonstrated ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations
License or Certification

Current Basic Life Support for Health Care Providers from one of the following programs is required: American Heart Association or American Red Cross.

If a candidate does not currently have the required certification, education and testing will be included as part of the orientation and training program.

Benefits and Compensation

As a Mayo Clinic employee, you will be eligible for competitive compensation and comprehensive benefit plans. The hourly rate for this position is $22.89.

This is a full-time position with a 64-hour pay period. The schedule is Monday to Friday, clinic-based hours, with no weekends or holidays.
