CSL Plasma is a leading global plasma collection company, and we are seeking a skilled Phlebotomist Specialist to join our team. As a Phlebotomist Specialist, you will play a critical role in the efficient and effective collection of plasma from donors. Your primary responsibility will be to perform venipuncture, monitor the pheresis process, and follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to ensure the highest quality plasma collection.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform venipuncture on donors to begin the pheresis process, ensuring compliance with SOPs and FDA guidelines.
  • Evaluate vein performance of donors to identify potential issues and make necessary corrections to expedite donation time and ensure product quality and donor safety.
  • Ensure the donation process is efficient and make adjustments as needed to provide a positive experience for donors.
  • May educate new donors on the use of therapeutic products made from donated plasma.
  • Explain the screening process, health screening tests performed, appointment system, donation fees, center policies, proper nutrition, and other relevant information to donors.
  • Ensure all donor questions are answered timely, accurately, and professionally.
  • Maintain alertness to any donor reactions and assist with reactions or notify appropriate staff.
  • Use a Personal Digital Assistant (PDA) to record incidents that occur during the pheresis process, such as machine alerts and alarms, volume variances, and donor adverse events.
  • Perform calibrations and verify that maintenance has been performed as outlined in SOPs.
  • Respond to and resolve complex equipment alarms or donor issues.
  • Troubleshoot equipment failures, create incident documentation, remove and/or replace equipment from service.
  • Monitor donor flow on the donor floor to ensure continuous turnover and alert Group Leader or Supervisor of donor flow issues.
  • May provide guidance and technical training about processes and procedures to donor floor staff and other staff as required.
  • Collect arm samples or whole blood samples from donors for testing.
  • Ensure accurate recording of donor data in the electronic donor information management system as outlined in SOPs.
  • Understand policies and procedures associated with hyper immune programs at the center, if applicable.
  • Maintain a clean, efficient work environment and ensure sufficient operating supplies and forms are available as needed.
  • Follow all Health Safety & Environmental (HSE) and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) policies and procedures.
  • Promote safety in all actions.
  • May conduct routine audits of internal procedures and documentation.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all personnel, donor, and center information.
  • May be cross-trained in other areas to meet business needs.
  • Bilingual skills may be required, at the discretion of the organization, to meet business needs.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum eighteen (18) months experience in a medical or healthcare environment preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Specialized medical or phlebotomy training preferred.
Working Conditions

Ability to complete routine forms or conduct routine oral communications.

Understands, remembers, and communicates routine, factual information.

Must be able to see and speak with customers and observe equipment operation.

Occasionally perform tasks while standing and walking up to 100% of time.

Reach, bend, kneel, and have a high level of manual dexterity.

Occasionally be required to lift and carry up to 25 pounds.

Fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions.

Frequently exposed to hazardous chemicals, extreme temperatures, and to blood-borne pathogens.

Required to wear Personal Protective Equipment while performing specific tasks or in certain areas.

Required to work overtime and extended hours to support center operational needs.
