Job Title: Optical Engineer

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Optical Engineer to join our team at MIT Lincoln Laboratory. As an Optical Engineer, you will play a key role in designing, developing, and testing advanced laser communications systems.

Job Summary:

The successful candidate will have a strong background in optics and optomechanics, with experience in designing and developing complex optical systems. You will work closely with our team of experts to develop innovative solutions for laser communications systems, including system conceptual design, ray tracing and tolerance analysis, component selection and specification, and optical system alignment and testing.

Responsibilities:
  • Design and develop advanced laser communications systems, including system conceptual design, ray tracing and tolerance analysis, and component selection and specification.
  • Work closely with our team of experts to develop innovative solutions for laser communications systems.
  • Conduct optical system alignment and testing, including the use of interferometers, autocollimators, and other optical alignment and characterization instrumentation.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, including design specifications, test procedures, and test results.
  • Collaborate with other team members to ensure the successful development and testing of laser communications systems.
Requirements:
  • Master's degree in optical engineering or a related field with significant coursework or experience in optics.
  • Minimum GPA: 3.5.
  • Experience with optical design and development software, such as Zemax or CODE V.
  • Experience with MATLAB and other programming languages.
  • Familiarity with fiber optic test equipment and components.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
