Job Title: Optical Engineer

MIT Lincoln Laboratory is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Optical Engineer to join our Advanced Lasercom Systems and Operations Group. As a key member of our team, you will design, assemble, align, and test complex prototype optical systems requiring precision tolerances and robustness to vibrations.

Responsibilities:
  • Design and develop optical systems and components using Zemax or CODE V optical design software
  • Align and test optical systems using interferometers, autocollimators, alignment telescopes, theodolites, profilometers, wavefront sensors, and high-speed infrared cameras / focal plane arrays
  • Work with other optics personnel to develop and implement optical test equipment and procedures
  • Collaborate with team members to improve the efficiency of our processes and testing
Requirements:
  • Master's degree in optical engineering or a related field with significant coursework or experience in optics, PhD preferred
  • Experience with optical alignment and characterization instrumentation, including interferometers, autocollimators, and wavefront sensors
  • Proficiency in Zemax or CODE V optical design software
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
