POSITION DETAILS:

JOB TITLE: Neighborhood Assistant

DEPARTMENT: Retreat

FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt

SALARY: $17.00

SUPERVISOR: Neighborhood Coordinator

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Under the guidance of a Licensed Clinician, this role involves coordinating and delivering clinical services, including specialized group and individual counseling.

KEY FUNCTIONS:

  • Provide crisis intervention for individuals experiencing emotional or physical distress.
  • Conduct diagnostic evaluations and refer clients to Licensed Clinicians for further treatment.
  • Ensure compliance with infection control protocols.
  • Facilitate referrals to external programs for medical and psychological support.
  • Collect urine samples for drug screening purposes.
  • Offer counseling services to clients dealing with mental health issues, substance dependence, and homelessness.
  • Assess client needs to develop appropriate treatment plans.
  • Orient new clients to available treatment programs.
  • Participate in treatment planning and conduct individual and group counseling sessions.
  • Identify potential clients and provide information about agency programs.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate comprehensive treatment plans while maintaining regular contact with participants.
  • Complete necessary documentation, ensuring client confidentiality.
  • Act as a liaison and advocate for clients, assisting them in accessing social services.
  • Engage in team meetings, seminars, and training sessions as required by the supervisor.
  • Collaborate with community providers relevant to program content.
  • Deliver presentations about programs to various agencies on a monthly basis.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Attend all relevant training sessions as required for your credentials.
  • Plan and implement at least one group activity per month for program participants, which may include life skills training, educational workshops, support recovery groups, recreational activities, or field trips.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: A Master's degree in social sciences is required.

Experience: A minimum of 3 years of relevant clinical experience, particularly with homelessness, mental health, or substance use issues.

Licensure: Active certification in good standing is required, such as LMSW, LADC, LMFT, LPC, or LPCA.

Skills: Strong organizational and time management abilities, excellent interpersonal skills, and the capacity to motivate individuals and groups. Experience working with diverse populations is essential. Familiarity with vocational and educational assessments is preferred. Proficiency in computer systems is necessary.

Knowledge: A solid understanding of HIV/AIDS, mental health, and substance use disorders is required. Knowledge of social services in Hartford is advantageous. Ability to collaborate effectively with other service providers is essential. Experience in group facilitation is preferred. Knowledge of human services, criminal justice, and court systems is beneficial. Strong communication skills and the ability to maintain accurate case notes are necessary.

Physical Requirements: Tasks may involve sedentary to light work, including some reaching and handling of materials. Visual perception and oral communication abilities are required.

Environmental Considerations: Duties may involve exposure to various environmental conditions, including dust, humidity, and other potential hazards.
