Job Description

I. POSITION OVERVIEW

This role is situated within Raleigh Radiology, which operates outpatient imaging facilities across Wake County and its neighboring regions.

The primary responsibility of this position is to facilitate and support all aspects of patient care related to Interventional Radiology (IR) services.

The individual in this role will be tasked with managing patient care coordination, adhering to established protocols, policies, and specific directives.

This position encompasses the coordination of IR-Vein Clinic procedures, which includes scheduling, obtaining authorizations, arranging surgical appointments, and providing assistance in the IR suite as necessary for patient care.

The candidate must possess the capability to perform medical imaging procedures.

This position reports directly to the Senior Manager of Clinical Practice Operations or the IR Nursing Supervisor.

II. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

A. Radiography Responsibilities (50%)

1. Uphold professional care standards.

2. Implement Raleigh Radiology's policies and procedures.

3. Evaluate patient conditions (both physical and psychosocial); prioritize needs, establish goals, and respond effectively to meet those needs, including discharge education.

4. Document and report relevant observations and reactions to the care provided.

5. Assist with specific tests and procedures as required.

6. Participate in the economical use of supplies.

7. Ensure that equipment is consistently maintained and available for use.

8. Collaborate with colleagues and physicians in delivering patient care.

9. Foster open communication.

10. Utilize teaching opportunities with patients and significant others.

11. Initiate emergency measures for sudden adverse occurrences in patients.

12. Maintain a clean, safe, and well-equipped environment for patients and staff.

13. Regularly collaborate with other staff members to fulfill job duties and assist others as needed; serve as a team player and role model, demonstrating courtesy, care, helpfulness, and respect.

14. Perform additional duties as assigned.

B. Patient Care Activities (35%)

1. Gather initial patient history and conduct assessments.

2. Complete and document history sheets.

3. Perform assessments that may include:

   i. Vital signs and lab value interpretation

   ii. History of recent complaints (reason for procedure)

   iii. Relevant medical history

   iv. Comprehensive list of medications and dosages

   v. Allergies

   vi. Other pertinent assessment details such as LMP, tetanus history, weight, etc.

4. Continuously observe and assess patients throughout their visit.

   i. Evaluate the patient's physical and psychological state and their responses to the procedure.

   ii. Accurately reflect the patient's condition.

   iii. Conduct neurological checks, breath sounds, etc., as instructed by the supervising Radiologist or referring MD, and notify the appropriate personnel in emergencies.

   iv. Initiate emergency procedures, including BLS.

   v. Document assessments.

   vi. Assess and document patient understanding of the procedure and aftercare.

   (1) Document in RIS that teaching or after-care instructions were provided.

   (2) Document when referring MD is contacted in RIS and provide written instructions to ensure follow-through.

   (3) Follow up appropriately on patients who experience adverse reactions.

   (4) Document relevant information on forms used by Raleigh Radiology.

5. Provide a report to the referring MD after the procedure, ensuring it is concise and accurately reflects physiological and psychological facts regarding each patient.

   i. Relay reports immediately upon completion of the procedure and/or when the patient is discharged.

   ii. Initiate communication with peers or other personnel to ensure continuous quality patient care.

   (a) Keep the physician informed of any changes in the patient's condition.

C. Safety and Infection Control (10%)

1. Adhere to safety and infection control policies and procedures.

2. Report unsafe equipment and ensure follow-up.

3. Assess patients and plan accordingly for safety and infection control.

4. Ensure all necessary equipment for care provision is readily available and functional.

5. Report incidents and unusual occurrences per department policies.

D. Additional Duties (5%)

1. Utilize growth and development principles to assess each patient's age-specific needs and provide appropriate treatment and care.

2. Maintain strict confidentiality of all facility and employee/patient information.

3. Perform other duties as assigned.

III. EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, CERTIFICATION, AND LICENSURE

A. Education: High school diploma required; associate degree preferred.

B. Experience: Prior experience in a Radiology or IR department is preferred.

C. Certification:

1. AHA BLS certification is required or must be obtained within the first 90 days of employment. Continuous AHA BLS certification is mandatory.

D. Licensure: None required.

IV. DESIRED SKILLS

Basic patient care skills, including first-aid and BLS. Excellent technical skills in diagnostic radiography are essential. Ability to work independently, make sound decisions based on patient condition, and follow directions is required. Flexibility, dependability, and professionalism are necessary.

V. WORKING CONDITIONS / PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Must be able to read printed material without strain, with or without glasses, and hear conversational voices, with or without a hearing aid. May be exposed to infections and contagious diseases. Frequent, prolonged periods of standing and/or walking are required. Responsibilities include lifting, positioning, pushing, or transferring patients and lifting supply boxes. Subject to rotating holidays or shifts.

A. Supervised by: Senior Manager of Clinical Operations or IR Nursing Supervisor

B. Supervises: None

C. Instruction / Assistance / Review of Work:

The employee operates under the oversight of Radiologists and the Senior Manager of Clinical Operations, although considerable independent work is expected. Review of work is generally limited to ensuring compliance with policies and procedures as judged by the Radiologist. The employee is expected to inform management of any unforeseen events or circumstances that necessitate significant changes.
